Applying for special circumstances for TAFE Admissions

What does special circumstances mean?

TAFE Admissions in consultation with TAFE WA colleges may make provisions for applicants who can substantiate that special circumstances apply to them. These circumstances must be exceptional and beyond the control of the individual. These will be taken into consideration during the application process, including for entry into competitive courses.  This will enable applicants to be considered for a place, making adjustments (if required) for their individual situation.

Special consideration will be given for circumstances that affect a person’s ability to participate in education or employment that may result in a person being less competitive for entry into a course. These will be looked at on a case by case basis with the relevant TAFE WA college.

Applicants must apply for and provide substantiating documents at least 10 working days before the Round 1 offers are due to be published. Applying for and receiving an adjustment based on special circumstances does not guarantee you entry into a course.

Applications will be assessed on the information provided by the applicant and the documentation supplied to support the claims. Applications without supporting documentation will not be considered. Assessment of applications will be undertaken by TAFE Admissions and the relevant TAFE college. Applicants will be provided with an outcome of this assessment.

Example for grounds for application

  1. Health reasons including injury, serious illness and disability
  2. Unemployment or inability to work
  3. Family or social reasons

What supporting documents do I need to submit?

  • Specialist medical reports – these must be current (within the last 12 months)
  • Letters from teachers or educational providers outlining issues experienced and the effect of this on the applicant's educational outcomes
  • Other formal documentation that can be ratified
